So, its Christmas time once more, and as ever, gaming companies struggle to get their latest games released before christmas day. Some of them awesome (Donkey Kong Country Returns), some of them awful (Call of Duty: Black Ops), no one cares. The casual market will probably recieve games such as "Ninjabread Man" or "Jillian Michael's Fitness Ultimatum", whereas the hardcore market will recieve games such as "Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood" and "World of Warcraft: Cataclysm". Personally, I'm kind of in the middle. Whilst I enjoy some "Casual" games, I also enjoy some "Hardcore" games. As for what I am hoping to recieve for Christmas, in terms of Games, I am hoping for WII Party and Sonic Colours.
However, the big gaming thing this Christmas is the Xbox Kinect. Everyone is talking about this upgraded EyeToy, so I'm just going to throw my thoughts in the growing pile of comments on this thing. Personally, I don't like this Motion Sensing camera. But then someone would tell me "Yeah, but your favourite current gen console is the WII. How can you say you don't like Motion Sensing?" Well, allow me to explain.
You see, whilst the WII does have Motion Sensing Capabilities, Some games do not need it. You still hold a controller and you still press buttons to play a game. There are some great games on the WII that do not require Motion Controls to play or at least, not much. For Example, in Super Mario Galaxy, you use the Motion Controls to spin by flicking the WIImote. Of course there are some games that abuse the Motion Controls (Karate Phants anyone?)
The Kinect however, has no buttons. If you want to pause, you have to say "Xbox, Pause!". Why? Why do you have to do that? I mean people have been used to 25 years of pressing a button to pause, why change it? It could work for some people, but not for me.
Also the launch games are mediocre. Oh sure, the two exercise games are probably okay, and Kinectimals is definitely cute, but the two racing games especially Sonic Free Riders are awful. I mean, you'd have arthiritis after playing that game for more than ten minutes, it's ridiculous! Also, to play on the Kinect, you need a brand new Xbox!
Well that's my thoughts on this whole overblown excitement for the Xbox Kinect. Sooner or later, people will realise how average it really is, and go back to just playing on their Xbox normally. That's all I have to say on that matter. Good Night and Good Luck.
